6 Months

This week I am 6 months pregnant. Let me repeat that – 6 months pregnant. For some reason this seems infinitely more absurd than 24 weeks. 24 weeks (out of 40) seems like not that many. 6 months out of 9.5 seems like there is barely any time left. This feels absurd because honestly I feel like I’m just getting started. And yes, I know, that by the end I will be whining and uncomfortable and begging for someone to take the freakin’ baby out already BUT right now I am totally (for the most part) content to walk around with a small(ish?) pregnant belly and only minor inconveniences like feeling as if I just consumed an entire easter ham ALL DAY LONG.

For real though – people (strangers) are finally starting to be able to tell that I’m pregnant and not just fat. And my coworkers say I am “walking with a pregnant swagger” (whatever that is) – and we are setting up the nursery and feeling very joyful and content about having a baby on the way AND we are still getting sleep (at least a little bit). I am not so eager for this phase to end. It’s just so convenient to be able to take baby wherever we go and not have to change her diaper or quiet her down or feed her. All she does is toss and turn and sometimes kick or jab – not hard enough to hurt, but just hard enough to say hi and make me (and Dan) smile and blow her kisses. Obviously some day we’d like to meet her. But this part is really so much fun, its hard to believe, and sort of sad that it’s almost 2/3 over. This part is so fun I almost forget how horrible the first 3 months were. Actually, I don’t. They really sucked.

But anyway, that’s enough of my absurdly sappy and pathetic lamenting – here’s some fun stuff we did this week.

1. Dan finished painting the nursery furniture (we painted both the dresser and twin bed that we got for free to match the crib) so now it looks like a real bedroom set which is REALLY exciting for me because I love things that match and I love things that are DIY and I love things that are free – so this is just AWESOME. Here are some pics!

Doesn’t it look great?! I really love it and can’t wait to decorate more. But I’m trying to wait until after the baby shower to buy cutesy room decorations so for now its a little sparse.

2. Also this week my parents came up for Easter and we made a big brunch. Again, by “we” I mean Dan. He made pancakes with fresh fruit, two different types of quiche, homemade sausage and bacon and then my parents brought up some cinnamon rolls. It was SO GOOD. It was also really fun to spend time with family and have people in our house. Every time we do something like that I feel very blessed to have such amazing family, and also to have a cute little house that is big enough for (small) family gatherings and a family of 3 (to be!).

Can you tell I’m in a good mood this week? That’s what a pancake brunch will do to a pregnant lady. I feel this happy even despite a $400 bill for new brakes on the car and a $125 furnace cleaning. WAH. And also – it’s only Monday afternoon. Give it another day or and I’ll probably be whining about how far away Friday feels and how little money we have and how much the heartburn hurts and….ok I’ll stop now.

For now though, life is good.
